RFC 3339, "Date and Time on the Internet: Timestamps", July 2002

Section 5.6 says:
date-time = full-date "T" full-time ... NOTE: ISO 8601 defines date and time separated by "T". Applications using this syntax may choose, for the sake of readability, to specify a full-date and full-time separated by (say) a space character.
Notes:
This specification seems ambiguous; the ABNF allows only “T”/“t” as the separator, but the “NOTE:” paragraph describes acceptability of other separators.
It’s unclear what “this syntax” refers to: if “this” refers to ISO 8601, then it seems irrelevant, but if “this” means RFC 3339, then the paragraph conflicts with the ABNF.
I’m not sure of the proper fix because I don’t know the intended meaning.
