Status: Verified (1)

RFC 4010, "Use of the SEED Encryption Algorithm in Cryptographic Message Syntax (CMS)", February 2005

Source of RFC: smime (sec)

Errata ID: 3865
Status: Verified
Type: Technical
Publication Format(s) : TEXT

Reported By: Russ Housley
Date Reported: 2014-01-10
Verifier Name: Sean Turner
Date Verified: 2014-01-12

Section Appendix A. says:

     SeedEncryptionAlgorithmInCMS
         { iso(1) member-body(2) us(840) rsadsi(113549) pkcs(1)
           pkcs9(9) smime(16) modules(0) id-mod-cms-seed(24) }

It should say:

     SeedEncryptionAlgorithmInCMS
         { iso(1) member-body(2) us(840) rsadsi(113549) pkcs(1)
           pkcs9(9) smime(16) modules(0) id-mod-cms-seed(25) }

Notes:

The value assigned for id-mod-cms-seed in 25, not 24. This error will not impact interoperability, but it could impact developers using some ASN.1 tools.

Section 3.1 says:

    P[i] The ith plaintext key data block
     C[i] The ith ciphertext data block
     A The 64-bit integrity check register
     R[i] An array of 64-bit registers where
                   i = 0, 1, 2, ..., n
     A[t], R[i][t] The contents of registers A and R[i] after
                   encryption step t.

It should say:

    P[i] The ith (64-bit) plaintext key data block
                  where i = 1, 2, ..., n
    C[i] The ith (64-bit) ciphertext data block
                  where i = 0, 1, 2, ..., n
     A The 64-bit integrity check register
     R[i] An array of 64-bit registers where
                  i = 1, 2, ..., n
     A[t], R[t][i] The contents of registers A and R[i] after
                   encryption step t.
