Section 8.2.3 says:
Similar to item (9), (16), (17), and (22) above, the Description of SHA384Result contains improper wording and unpleasent formatting. Additionally, counting 48 elements as ranging from the "0th" up to the "48th" is unpleasant and wrong -- indicating 49 elements (octets) ! Near the bottom of page 53, the RFC says: * Description: * This function will return the 384-bit message * digest into the Message_Digest array provided by the caller. * NOTE: The first octet of hash is stored in the 0th element, * the last octet of hash in the 48th element. For correctness and consistency, and for improved readability, it should say: * Description: * This function will return the 384-bit message digest * into the Message_Digest array provided by the caller. * NOTE: * The first octet of the hash is stored in the element with index 0, * the last octet of the hash in the element with index 47.
