Parent issue: Improving the scholarly reputation of the RFC Series Specific issue: DOI assignments to all RFC

Problem Statement: When documenting authored publications, academic researchers rely on Digital Object Identifiers (DOI) assigned to their publications. In order to encourage the reputation and value of the Series to academic researchers, adding DOIs to all published RFCs is being considered as a possibility

RSE Actions:

• Determine cost and potential value
  • Note that as of 17-January-2013, 688 RFCs have been authored by one or more individuals with institute, college, or university as their affiliation (assumed from the author addresses section); this is 10% of the whole of the Series at this time

RSOC Actions:

• none at this time

RFC Production Center & Publisher Actions:

• Assuming that DOIs would only be added to the info pages for each RFC,
  • How much programming would be involved to
    • add this field to the info pages?
    • add a search field for DOI to the search page?
