RFC 9606, "DNS Resolver Information", June 2024

Source of RFC: add (int)

Errata ID: 8223
Status: Rejected
Type: Technical
Publication Format(s) : TEXT, PDF, HTML

Reported By: Dick Franks
Date Reported: 2024-12-28
Rejected by: Éric Vyncke

Section 4 says:

Each key/value pair is encoded using the format rules defined
in Section 6.3 of [RFC6763].

It should say:

Each key/value pair is encoded as its own constituent string
using the format rules defined in Section 6.3 of [RFC6763].

Notes:

Although the example in section 6 indicates that each key/value pair inhabits its own string,
the requirement is stated indirectly by reference to RFC6763(6.3).

This requirement need to be explicitly included in section 4.

I am aware of one implementation which mistakenly encodes three attributes within a single string.

Section 3, paragraph 2 says:

A DNS client can retrieve the resolver information using
the RESINFO RR type and the QNAME of the domain name that
is used to authenticate the DNS resolver (referred to as
the Authentication Domain Name (ADN) in DNR [RFC9463]).

It should say:

A DNS client can retrieve the resolver information using
the RESINFO RR type and the QNAME of the domain name that
is used to authenticate the DNS resolver (referred to as
the Authentication Domain Name (ADN) in DNR [RFC9463])

Notes:

The link to RFC9463 at the end of the paragraph has an Anchor of
https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc9606.html#RFC9463
which just pointspback to itself, instead of to the actual RFC946 document

The correct link should IMHO be
https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc9463

(or maybe it should point to the relevant line in Section 9 References that has details of the RFCs)?
--VERIFIER NOTES--
The link points to the reference entry where the full link is provided. This convention is present throughout the RFC Series.
