I’m working on an I-D, in which I would like to cite an academic article. I would like to include its DOI (digital object identifier).

What is the optimal way to include the DOI? Or is the DOI considered “evil” (because back in the day there were some disputes between the DOI people and URN/URI people)?

or something else…

Note that doi: is not a provisional or permanent URI scheme, but the official DOI handbook says to use “doi:”. On a lot of academic websites, I have seen “doi>”.
