There is a difference between being well-intentioned and 'doing the
right thing'.

For one person, the right thing is writing raw xml in a basic text
editor. For another it is writing simple ascii text in Word. Those
operational choices lead to wildly different preferences in group design
discussions.

What is really needed is empathy by participants, to appreciate
preferences beyond their own, and an effort to balance diverse
preferences reasonably.

We're not very good at that.
