Fully disagree. None of the proposals are pointless yet, certainly not one co-authored by the previous RFC Editor.

Basically, yes. Bob and John submitted a new version of the draft after the perma-thread had been renewed here and before Paris; presumably, they did so because they wanted their idea to be discussed.
