No doubt a reasonable decision.

Still, it marks the end of a little-heralded, but frankly historic service.

That end should be recorded.

Email-based and FTP-based document retrieval served the early Net community well 
for more than 20 years.  They were instrumental in the Net's collaborative efforts.
