RFC 3587, "IPv6 Global Unicast Address Format", August 2003

Source of RFC: ipv6 (int)

Errata ID: 5153
Status: Held for Document Update
Type: Editorial
Publication Format(s) : TEXT

Reported By: ZHANG Hongyuan

Section 3 says:

    | 3 |     45 bits         |  16 bits  |       64 bits              |
    +---+---------------------+-----------+----------------------------+
    |001|global routing prefix| subnet ID |       interface ID         |
    +---+---------------------+-----------+----------------------------+

It should say:

    | 3 |     45 bits         |  16 bits  |       64 bits              |
    +---+---------------------+-----------+----------------------------+
    |001|                     | subnet ID |       interface ID         |
    +---+---------------------+-----------+----------------------------+
    |<-global routing prefix->|

Notes:

In the last figure of Section 3. Address Format, the global routing prefix should inlcude the prefix 001 in order to be consistent with the first two figures in the same section.

=====

Alternatively, the description of the 45 bits within the diagram might be updated to clarify these are the /remaining bits/ of the global routing prefix.
